Rivers Casino Portsmouth has been fined a lot of money because it broke some rules found by the Virginia Lottery last year. The casino will pay $545,000 in two different settlements because of these rule breaks.

Details about the fines and settlements:
In September, the initial settlement resulted in a $40,000 fine, followed by a significantly larger penalty of $505,000 settled in May. These fines are part of the Virginia Lottery's ongoing efforts to oversee casino operations within the state, addressing issues related to rule violations under the Casino Gaming Law.
Casino's actions and future steps:
Roy Corby, the General Manager of Rivers Casino Portsmouth, expressed serious concern, saying, "We take these issues very seriously and respect the decisions of the Virginia Lottery. We've reviewed everything thoroughly and made changes to prevent similar problems in the future." He didn't specify the changes, but the settlement requires plans to avoid more violations.
All $545,000 in fines will go to Virginia's general fund as required by law.
Since opening in January 2023 as Virginia's first permanent casino, Rivers Casino Portsmouth has thrived near Tidewater Community College on Victory Boulevard. The 250,000-square-foot facility features nearly 1,500 slot machines, 24 poker tables, dining options, and amenities.
Despite a successful start, recent rule-breaking shows how tough it is to follow gaming laws. These big fines stress.
